Founder and 1st President  (1987-1991)
Fédération Internationale de Chiropratique Sportive
(FICS)

Formally organized in September, 1987 at beautiful Kensington Hall, in London, England, "the FICS" is the only recognized World agency to govern the professional specialty of Sports Chiropractic. Dr. Press first conceived of the idea while serving as Chairman of the Int'l Affairs Committee on the Board of the ACA Sports Council in 1978-79. He realized that there was no single voice representing sports chiropractors at the IOC and in other agencies, like
ICSSPE, Sport Accord (GAISF), etc. He designed the FICS' first logo, wrote the Statutes and Corporate Charter, and invited the people to London, who were elected to its first or "founding" Board of Directors. Today, Dr. Press is recognized as the "founder (see archived FICS webpage)" of FICS.

On stepping down from his term of office, Dr. Press, became the first recipient of the FICS' GOLD MEDAL, the highest award which can be bestowed upon a Doctor of Chiropractic in the specialty of Sports Chiropractic, globally by his peers.

Originally the Executive was considering an extraordinary award for His Excellency, Juan Antonio Samaranch, for his then anticipated granting of official recognition of the IOC to FICS. Dr. Press as President, was given the responsibility of designing something appropriate. As this decision is even today still pending, the Executive Council, unbeknownst to Dr Press, decided to award the unique trophy, a real 18k gold and cloisonné medal, on a solid onyx base, to Dr. Press on the expiration of his term of office as the first President and founder of the Federation.

NOTE: NEW LOGO - (adopted in Tokyo-1997) The Fédération Internationale de Chiropratique Sportive or "FICS" is the World Governing Body for the professional specialty of Sports Chiropractic. Dr. Press was elected by the delegates of some 23 National Chiropractic Asociations (NCA's) at the first meeting of the FICS in London in 1987.

FICS is fully recognized by the Sport Accord (GAISF), and the International Council of Sport Science and Physical Education (ICSSPE). It has been recognized since 1987 by the Supreme Council of Olympic Commitees of Africa, and in 1989 it was recognized by the Soviet Sports Committee (GOSCOMSPORT). in 2000 in Sydney, there was a working relationship with the IOC for the first time; a first step in the ultimate goal of Official IOC recognition

And recently, the World Olympians Organization has formally recognized FICS, and is lobbying for its inclusion in the Olympic venue Clinics.

In April, in Rio De Janeiro, at the World Congress of Chiropractic, the FICS Board of Directors formally solidified Dr. Press' title as Founder of FICS, by awarding him their "Founder's Award" and a Past-President medal.
